HISTORY

The firm is a young one, started in 2004, thus much of its work is from previous partnerships.

Julian Cooke was partner in the firm Fleming and Cooke in Johannesburg in the late 1960s when he participated in the design and construction of buildings such as Medical Research Laboratories (SAIMR), University Indoor Sports Centre (Wits) and administration and exhibition buildings (Rand Show Grounds). In the early 1970s he worked as senior architect for Rand Mines Properties on commercial apartment and office buildings and urban planning. From 1978 – 2003 he was partner in a firm, Architects Associated, in which the major works were an indoor sports centre (project only) and three student residences at University of the Western Cape, and a large scale upgrading of migrant labour hostels in Cape Town. From the mid 1970s to 2000 he was a senior lecturer and professor at the School of Architecture and Planning, University of Cape Town.

Simone le Fevre, immediately prior to the formation of this firm, ran her own architectural practice. She recently undertook the South East Africa Research for Co-operation on Habitat (SEARCH) Masters programme at the University of Cape Town, which was primarily development orientated and has been involved in teaching in the architecture programme at the University of Cape Town for a number of years.
